You And What Army? Top Menswear Designers Reinvent The Duffle Bag

Details and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have teamed again in the name of accessories and charity: They've asked 20 menswear designers—including Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, Billy Reid, and recent CFDA award winner Public School—to reinvent the old-school drab-green duffle bag.

Each designer was given a standard army duffle and the customized range from a simple splattering black and white splotches, Jackson Pollack-style, to a complete overhaul with new fabric and hardware. The bags go up for auction on eBay on Monday, with proceeds going to the CFDA Foundation, which benefits emerging designers.

Below we've picked our five favorite designs:

Duckie Brown

Completely redone, designer couple Duckie Brown's version is made of lightweight wool with a geometric weave of gray, cream, red, yellow, and orange. It might not be so durable, but it sure looks snazzy.

Mark McNairy

We love this for its honesty: McNairy stenciled exactly what's on our mind when we have designer goods in our possession.

Tommy Hilfiger

Sticking to his true colors, Hilfiger's blue bag has custom red-leather handles and matching strap with silver-tone hardware. Thankfully his usually ostentatious logo is muted here.

Todd Snyder

Snyder completely changed the duffel into a "sailor's sea bag" with a leather base, side pocket, trim and strap, offset with gold  grommets and hardware. This thing could take some serious abuse.

Marc Jacobs

MJ jazzed up this drab bag with dozens of graphic buttons  and a khaki strap. It might cause you serious grief at airport security, but damn it if it doesn't look fierce.
