Director Confirms Ryan Reynolds' "Deadpool" Will Be Pansexual

But will moviedom's first queer superhero be a pick or a pan?

Collider was on the set of Deadpool earlier this year and chatted with star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller about the R-rated superflick.

One interesting tidbit to emerge from the conversation: the titular masked mercenary will be pansexual.

Can you talk about the tantalizing fireside photo that you guys put out. Does this mean it will be a very hypersexualized Deadpool?

Miller: Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool.

Reynolds: There is some sexuality in this movie for sure. You kinda think you have moments when you’re shooting where you think, “This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic book movie. Are we gonna get away with this?”

But so far so good. The studio hasn’t crushed us with anything. They were here yesterday, they were thrilled, they saw some cut footage and so far so good. We did a photo shoot for an entire day of just different, completely insane things that Deadpool is doing and there’s a lot more to come. They’ll be slowly released.

In Marvel comics, Deadpool—a.k.a. Wade Wilson—is an upbeat assassin with an absurdist streak, a horrible skin condition and more than a few mental health issues.

So it remains to be seen if the character's sexuality will simply be part of the story, or the butt of a joke. (Deadpool's kissing a guy?!? He must be insane!)

Referencing a publicity photo of Deadpool on a bearskin rug, Collider's Steve Weintraub asked if the hero's erotic exploits would be "all Burt Reynolds inspired."

"It wasn’t all Burt inspired. A little Dolly Parton in there," rejoined Ryan. "Got some unicorn fucking. A few things, I’m sure a lot, that will never ever see the light of day. Or, maybe they will if I have anything to do with it."

Deadpool opens February 12, 2016. Watch the red-band trailer below
