Disney Launches A Full-On Pride Collection
Disney fans excited about the new rainbow Mickey ears recently unveiled as an in-park release have even more to celebrate: Yesterday, Disney announced a full line of Pride items.
The company will donate 10% of proceeds from "the Rainbow Mickey Collection" to GLSEN through June 30, with a maximum donation $50,000.
Products available in the new collection include fanny packs, baseball caps, sunglasses, t-shirts, tank tops, water bottles and a variety of pins.
Now Disney's films just have to catch up: The company has faced criticism for its decision to omit Li Shang from the upcoming live-action remake of Mulan. The character was viewed as bisexual because he was attracted to Mulan while she pretended to be a man.
And in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, LeFou's homosexuality was merely hinted at in one scene, despite it being touted as "an exclusively gay moment" by director Bill Condon.
