Disney Shooting "Descendants," Movie Based On Children Of Classic Fairytale Villains

Disney realizes there's big money to be made in updating classic fairy tales: Even while Maleficent readies to hit theaters in May, the Disney Channel has greenlighted a new live-action TV movie starring the sons and daughters of legendary Disney villains.

Helmed by Kenny Ortega, who directed High School Musical, Descendants stars Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie) as Mal, the teen daughter of the wicked witch played by Angelina Jolie in the feature film. (Hmm, you think that's a coincidence?)

Mal is the ringleader of a group of offspring of Disney baddies: Carlos Evvie and Jay are the kids of Cruella De Vil, Snow White's Evil Queen and Aladdin's Jafar, respectively. (We really didn't think Jafar was the kind of guy to get married, but whatever.)

In the movie, they're raised on a secret island with their wicked parents but invited to go to high school with the children of Disney good guys like Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Mulan and Cinderella's Fairy Godmother.

"Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power," the press release asks, "or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom."

Ten bucks says they save the kingdom.
