Radio DJ Addresses The Unpretty Truth Of Being LGBT In America

New Jersey's Joe Votruba fought back tears on the air while discussing the aftermath of the Orlando tragedy.

The horrific massacre at Pulse nightclub in Orlando already happened nearly two months ago, but the remaining heartache still serves as a painful reminder of what it means to be an LGBT citizen.

Joe Votruba, a DJ for New Jersey 101.5, highlighted this scary truth on his show right after the attack, explaining why being gay can be a daily struggle.

"Every single day, when you go outside as a gay man, you have to wonder, 'Oh, how gay can I be around this crowd?'" he said. "'Should I hold my boyfriend's hand right now or not?'"

Votruba had to fight back tears while he discussed his feelings on the Orlando tragedy and how it is bringing some sad truths to the surface for our community.

"The fact that in 2016 it's easier for a gay man in Florida to get an assault rifle than it is to donate blood is an enormous problem," he said.
