The Disney Channel further expands its depictions of family with the newest episode of Doc McStuffins, an animated series about a six-year-old girl who takes care of her sick or displaced toys. “The Emergency Plan” featured two mom dolls, voiced by Wanda Sykes and Portia de Rossi, who were separated from their children after an earthquake hit.

Creator Chris Nee told GLAAD, “I always envision Doc McStuffins as a show about what it means to accept everyone as part of our communities. As part of a two-mom family, I’m proud to have an episode that reflects my son's world, and shows everyone that love is love in McStuffinsville."

GLAAd President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis added, “Shows like this reflect our real world, and today that includes the many children being raised by gay and lesbian parents who are all going to celebrate this story.”

Not only did the episode embrace LGBT visibility, but it also taught the importance of being prepared for an emergency.
