Is there any greater interview in the world than Dolly Parton? Hold on, let’s reword that. There is no greater interview than Ms. Dolly Parton. She’s smart, she’s got sass and she always brings her A-game. So it is no surprise she delighted on the red carpet at VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul.
As with every Dolly interview, the first thing to come up was the hair. “Well I think we have to have something going for us,” Dolly explained. “And our hair is a big deal.” Also a big deal she noted were those other famous larger than life items of hers.
The topic then shifted to her new film Joyful Noise, in theaters January 13, and Dolly could not have been more excited to talk about her much awaited return to the big screen. “Well, I’m getting to work with my diva friend Queen Latifah, and I love her, and it’s actually a wonderful story about gospel music. It’s very uplifting and it’s funny and it’s got a lot of heart and soul and some wonderful music.”
Finally, on the topic of the night, Dolly defined what the word “diva” meant to her. “I never knew what a diva was. I thought it was some snotty singer. You know, I thought diva was a bad word, like someone that made it and was a little snotty about it. Then I found out that it’s not so, it’s someone who is strong in their own self and their own personality and who’s sure of their talents and that’s what makes them a diva.”
But does Dolly consider herself a diva?
“Maybe I are one.”
