"Drag Race Thailand" Makes Herstory, Crowns First Trans Woman Winner

And Mama Ru made her first appearance on the series!

The second season finale of Drag Race Thailand aired this past weekend (April 5) and the RuPaul's Drag Race sister series made herstory by crowning the first transgender woman, Angele Anang.

Angele (real name Anchalee Anang) took home the top prize, and she wasn't the only trans representation on the new season. Kandy Zyanide, another trans contestant, was runner-up.

Angele proved to be fierce competition by becoming the first queen to ever win five challenges in a row, the most wins in a single season, beating the Drag Race record previously held by BenDeLaCreme on All Stars Season 3.

Drag Race Thailand host Pangina Heals posted Angele's crowning on Instagram with the caption, "You worked hard and you showed the world you are an amazing artist and an amazing human being." The international series' second season also featured its first cisgender female contestant, Ekaterina Bushueva, better known as Felicia Heals.

Not only did Drag Race crown its first trans woman winner, but RuPaul also made an appearance on Drag Race Thailand. The queen of queens filmed a video congratulating the top three contestants:

“Greetings Thailand, Mama Ru loves you and misses you. Angele Anang, Kandy Zyanide, Kana Warrior, no matter what happens next, you are and will always be Drag Race royalty. You have made Mama Ru so very proud. The time has come to crown our queen, and may the best woman win!”

Fans suspect that the video was filmed on the set of the upcoming Drag Race U.K. since it shows Ru at a judges' table, but with a background that looks Union Jack-inspired.

Condragulations, Angele! We can't wait to watch your journey to the crown when Drag Race Thailand premieres stateside.

RuPaul's Drag Race airs Thursdays at 9/8c on VH1.
