Drag Racer Mariah Gives a Tour of Atlanta
Mariah, a queen of the Atlanta scene, is coming back to TV on July 18th, where she'll join Raven and Jujubee in guiding three virgins out into the world of dating, courtesy of RuPaul's Drag U. (Molly Ringwald will be there, too!) She took time out of her hectic schedule to give us the down low on Atlanta.
Where do you live?
I live in the Beautiful City of Atlanta, where nothing is what it seems! Atlanta is the type of city were you can set your own pace. If you come to Atlanta with a plan to succeed, you have a fabulous chance of being happy here. Atlanta, like anywhere, is what you make it.
What's your favorite restaurant in the city?
Capital Grille in Buckhead is one of my favorite restaurants. It is corporate casual, but even if you are a little more dressed down they are still very inviting. Great customer service, which is hard to find nowadays. My favorite item on the menu would have to be the lump crab cakes!
And in your opinion, the best bar?
I love Blake's on the Park. It is a great neighborhood bar that welcomes all who love to drink!
Where do you score your killer fashions?
If you are looking for fashion, Phipps Plaza is the extreme of high end. But, if you are looking for more charm and local flavor, Little 5 Points is for you. They offer local boutiques and plenty of eclectic vintage.
Your best secret store?
Personally, I just enjoy Neiman's!
What's the best daytime sight to enjoy in your city?
My favorite place to go is Piedmont Park. It’s a lovely place to have a picnic with your partner or play kickball with friends. It is well maintained and surrounded by gay-owned or gay-friendly businesses. And it's convenient, in the center of Midtown Atlanta.
Where might you be found at 2am?
The best place to be at 2am would be Taco Cabana with a pitcher of margaritas!
Where do you like to go for a romantic date?
The best romantic date spot would have to be Mayor's Jewelry in Buckhead. What is more romantic than that?!
And for the inevitable makeout sesh?
The best makeout spot would be any rooftop pool as the sun is setting.
What's your favorite vacation destination?
I really have never gone on a real vacation, but I loved LA.
So where's the sexiest place you’ve ever been?
Sexiest place I have been … That would be anywhere I am!
Best place you’ve ever performed?
I have a few favorite venues that I have performed in. Charlie's Austin in Texas. The other performers were so sweet and generous to me when my bags were lost at the airport. They went out of their way and brought their drag closets to me. Very touching. Also, Spin in Chicago and Tracks in Denver.
Finally, where would you want your dream wedding to be?
My dream wedding would be a cruise to the most exclusive, exotic locale on the beach with 75 of our closest friends and family. Nothing less than a week!
