The glamour toad is working “9 to 5.”
The first trailer for Netflix’s new movie, Dumplin’, has finally arrived and it has your first look at Ginger Minj as a small town drag queen serving some epic high-hair Dolly Parton realness.
Dumplin’, based on the 2015 YA novel of the same name, follows Willowdean (Danielle Macdonald), a plus-sized teen who is full of confidence and spirit, and enters a local beauty pageant to win over the boy she likes and to enrage her mother (Jennifer Aniston), who is a pageant queen, herself. When Willowdean enters the contest she inspires a group of teenage outcasts to find their inner strength and join the pageant too.
In the new preview Willowdean visits a local drag bar, Hideaway, to see “the closest thing you can get to Dolly Parton around here”—a bunch of glamorous drag queens. Heaven truly is a place on earth.
In the book Willowdean says “the best moments of her life have started with a Dolly Parton song” and it’s no coincidence that the main character was named after one of Parton’s sisters, Willadeene Parton.
The queen of country music contributed to the film’s soundtrack, which will feature covers of classic Parton songs, like the previously released “Here I Am,” as well as some new tunes she worked on with Linda Perry.
Put on your rhinestone boots and watch the trailer below.
Dumplin’ hits Netflix, and select theaters, on December 7.
