E! Online’s Twitter account has been suspended after the site ran message ran claiming pop superstar Justin Bieber had come out.
At about 1pm today, Mashable.com reported a tweet came from E! Online’s account stating “Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I’m a gay.”
Another prank tweet claimed the Biebster’s on-again/off-again sweetheart, Selena Gomez, was “fully supporting” Justin’s decision to come out. That was followed by a post that Angelina Jolie had confessed the nation of Jordan was responsible for the “atrocious conditions” faced by Syrian refugees.
The Syrian Electronic Army, a group of hackers aligned with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, has taken credit for the bunk messages. In April 2012, the SYA jacked the AP’s twitter account and claimed the White House was under attack.
There’s been no comment from the network, but E! News tweeted that “our account @eonline has been compromised and some incorrect information was sent out. We’re working with Twitter now to fix this.”
Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to reset our passwords.
