This is the absolute worst news we have heard in a long, long time.
The legendary Elaine Stritch has announced today that, at 88-years-old, she is leaving NYC for her home state of Michigan. The actress/singer/entertainer/icon will first perform one last show, “Elaine Stritch at the Carlyle: Movin’ Over and Out,” from April 2 to 6.
Now while this makes it seem like she is retiring, Ms. Stritch is having none of that and told the New York Times when they raised the question, “What actor would ever say they’re done?”
Ms. Stritch started performing in the city 71 years ago, at the age of 17, and since then has found fame on Broadway in productions like Company and A Little Night Music and television, winning three Emmys, most recently for her performance as Colleen Donaghy on the much beloved 30 Rock. And she may just win another, her fourth, for the same show later this year.
So go buy tickets while you can for this performance, and please grab one for us too. Thanks!
