Out Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne married girlfriend Amanda Clifton over the weekend at Hempstead House on Long Island.
The ceremony and reception were livestreamed for fans via on Facebook Live, courtesy of The Knot, which chose Delle Donne and Clifton as its first same-sex Dream Wedding couple.
The brides both wore white gowns for the ceremony—Elena an Ersa Atelier and Amanda a Pronovias—before changing into BHLDN for the reception. Speaking of the reception, the wedding cake was a towering 11-tiers. Only fitting for a WNBA star who is 6’5”, we guess.
Instead of a first dance, Delle Donne and Clifton danced with their fathers to Phil Collins’ “You’ll be in my heart.”
The ladies wanted giving to be a big part of their special day: They asked guest to donate to the Elena Delle Donne Foundation in lieu of presents.
“We thought, we’ve been living together for a while. We don’t need pots and pans and sheets and all that stuff,” Delle Donne told NewNowNext. “We wanted to do something bigger than that, and The Knot had the great idea to ask for donations instead of gifts. What a great way to give back and share our special day.”
As part of The Knot’s annual Dream Wedding package, Delle Donne and Clifton were surprised with their honeymoon destination: The lovebirds are heading to Tahiti for a one-of-a-kind romantic getaway.
Best of luck in married life, ladies!
