If elected president, Elizabeth Warren will end the price-gouging of PrEP and fight the epidemic of violence facing black trans women. That is, according to a comprehensive, 12-page LGBTQ political platform the senator released on Thursday morning.

“I will use every legal tool we have to make sure that LGBTQ+ people can live free from

Discrimination,” the White House hopeful vows in the document. “We will restore and strengthen critical Obama-era non-discrimination protections that the Trump Administration gutted.”

The plan substantially expands on her past promises to LGBTQ community, released in an exclusive with NewNowNext in May. It also puts pressure on her fellow contenders to up their pitch to queer voters as they head into a Town Hall on LGBTQ issues with the HRC and CNN in downtown Los Angeles Thursday night.

All of the 2020 Democratic contenders have stated their support for the LGBTQ community, most holding up their support of the Equality Act, too, which would expand the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ Americans national policy. However, Warren has now released the most comprehensive LGBTQ-interest agenda from a 2020 presidential candidate to date.

The 10-point platform promises an administration that will end ban conversion therapy, make federal grants conditional on non-discrimination policy, prioritize funding for anti-bias police training, reinstate transgender military inclusion, and restore LGBTQ and HIV advocacy abroad.

She vows to develop an LGBTQ homelessness prevention program within the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness:

The program will research pathways into homelessness that disproportionately affect LGBTQ+ individuals, like family rejection, and work directly with LGBTQ+ youth of color and transgender youth experiencing homelessness to gather information on the particular barriers they face.

The policy also states that Warren will combat anti-LGBTQ job discrimination, banning contractors from asking applicants salary and criminal histories. “Because LGBTQ+ people are disproportionately criminalized and face high rates of wage discrimination, these policies also harm LGBTQ+ workers,” she argues.

She promises to update federal policies to make it easier for trans people to change their identity documents, including adding third gender options. She says she will tackle anti-LGBTQ discrimination in health care, adoption agencies, schools and prisons.

Additionally, Warren posits ending solitary confinement, where many trans people can languish for months on end when prisons fail to keep them safe in general populations. Those confinement practices came under intense scrutiny earlier this year after Layleen Polanco, a transgender woman from New York, died in solitary at Rikers Island in June.

The document further proposes ending the gay blood ban once and for all; improving data collection on LGBTQ communities nationwide; diversifying medical research to better include queer people; caring for LGBTQ seniors; and undoing the discriminatory health care practices chartered under President Trump.

Warren states her plan to offer Medicare for all will ease burdens facing marginalized LGBTQ people who struggle to access care.

“As president, I would make sure that federal family programs like paid family leave cover

chosen family members, and individuals who take a leave of absence to care for a chosen family member would qualify for the caregiver credit under my Social Security Plan,” she adds.
