Ellen DeGeneres' Clothing Line For Gap Kids Rips Apart Gender Stereotypes

Ellen DeGeneres is expanding her lifestyle brand, ED, to include kids clothing in a new partnership with Gap Kids.

But her cute threads come with a message (and not just the ones emblazoned on the shirts): Using gender-neutral colors and designs, the clothes are marketed to girls who "skateboard or dance, wear dresses or jeans, build forts or paint rainbows, or everything in between."

Gone are pretty pink, pastels and princesses—GapKids XED offers a palette of primary colors and muted earth tones with slogans like "Be your own hero."

"We focus so much on our differences and that is creating a lot of chaos and negativity and bullying in the world," DeGeneres explains in a promo video below.

"I think that if we focus on what we all have in common which is ‘we all just want to be happy’ that would be a lot better."

The talk show queen is putting her money where her mouth is, too: $250,000 from the sales of the products will be donated to Girls Inc, a nonprofit that helps young women fulfil their potential.
