Michelle Obama Surprises Ellen DeGeneres On The Anniversary Of Her Coming Out
This Sunday, April 30, is the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking coming-out episode of Ellen. In celebration of the historic day, Ellen DeGeneres devoted Friday's episode of her talk show to "The Puppy Episode" and reunited the cast of her sitcom.
During her interview with Oprah Winfrey, who guest-starred on the coming-out episode as Ellen's therapist, DeGeneres recalled asking the talk show queen if she would be on the show, and was "shocked" when she agreed.
"I said 'yes' immediately," Winfrey told the audience.
DeGeneres went on to talk about how she received death threats after coming out and there was even a bomb scare during the filming of "The Puppy Episode."
"You were the bravest woman ever," added Winfrey.
A sentiment that was echoed by Michelle Obama, who taped a special message for DeGeneres congratulating her on her anniversary.
"You are brave, you are kind," said the former First Lady. "I absolutely adore you."
