Watch Ellen DeGeneres Receive Her Presidential Medal Of Freedom

"Her courage and candor helped change the hearts and minds of millions of Americans."

Today, President Obama handed out his final Presidential Medals of Freedom to 21 recipients including Diana Ross, Tom Hanks and Ellen DeGeneres.

In a live video from the ceremony, DeGeneres is praised for her career—including coming out on her sitcom back in 1997: “her courage and candor helped change the hearts and minds of millions of Americans, accelerating our nation’s constant drive towards equality and acceptance for all.”
