Ellen Page and Kate Mara are set to star in and co-produce the upcoming lesbian drama Mercy.

According to Variety, "Page is portraying Lucy, the daughter of a man on death row falling in love with Mara’s Mercy character, a woman on the opposing side of her family’s political cause."

Since coming out herself, Page has been concerned that she is no longer receiving offers to portray straight characters, but said that she is ultimately embracing the opportunity to play these important roles.

"I’m focusing mostly on stories that are meaningful to me and stories for women and supporting more gay characters," she said.

Mercy is reportedly set to start shooting next month in Cincinnati.
