Elton John Awkwardly Honors Liberace at Emmy Awards: WATCH

Last night, Elton John gave a riveting performance of a new song called "Home Again" as a tribute to fellow musician and gay icon Liberace.  Less riveting, however, was the semi-bumbling mess of speech he delivered before the performance.

During his speech, Sequin Queen Elton looked down numerous times at what we can only assume is the script at which he had never even glanced at prior.  The first half of the pre-written soliloquy seemed almost rote, until John read the sentence, "What I was not aware of, until years later was his lifestyle," after which he paused and mumbled, "Yeah, right. Oh well."  The audience chuckled knowingly.

He later finished with the bizarre and grammatically awkward sentence: "Liberace left us 25 years ago, and what a difference those years have made to people like me and people like me.

Immediately noticed by eagle eyed gawker.com writer Rich Juzwiak, the moment is now preserved for us to experience with second hand embarrassment.
