The Grammy Award-winning artist was inspired to launch the YouTube contest because many of his best-loved songs debuted in the 1970s and 80s before the advent of music videos.

Both John and Taupin unveiled the winners at a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival this Monday. All three videos were shown and then director Spike Lee hosted a Q&A with the legendary singer.
