Five Dollars/Five Minutes: Born This Way Foundation & Emily’s List

For the cost of a cappuccino, or less time than it takes to drink it, you can act. Every day.

This new ongoing feature is here to help direct you to simple, inexpensive ways to act against discrimination and to protect the rights of the LGBT community—and all people—endangered by the Trump administration.

Are you still reeling from Lady Gaga’s legendary—and slyly subversive—Super Bowl halftime performance? You’re not alone. Not to mention, we bet you’re already stowing away some cash for one of her concerts on her newly announced Joanne world tour.

But before Mother Monster took our breath away by diving into a packed football stadium, she used her stardom as philanthropist for the LGBT community. The singer launched her Born This Way Foundation in 2012. The organization works to tackle important issues among marginalized young people like teen suicide and bullying—something that teachers have reported becoming more common now that Donald Trump is president.

In honor of Gaga’s incredible performance, consider donating to the foundation to support our young people at BornThisWayFoundation.org.

Gaga may slay the stage, but we know the real women superstars are the ones who are slaying the council or congress chamber as elected representatives. American politics has never been more of a boys club, but with enough women representation, we can hold back the potential damage to key health issues including reproductive rights could otherwise be set back decades.

Emily’s List has started its Run to Win campaign, asking for women and feminist allies to consider running for office. In less than 5 minutes, you can sign up to receive offers about training, webinars, and other resources to run for office or help encourage a passionate, driven woman in your life to run for office.

You can sign up for Run to Win at EmilysList.org/Run-To-Win.
