Eric McCormack Receiving Award for Making Significant LGBTQ Impact

Point Foundation will honor the "Will & Grace” star at its annual Los Angeles Gala.

Where there's a Will, there's an award.

Point Foundation, America’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit, is honoring Will & Grace star Eric McCormack.

The Emmy-winning actor and philanthropist will receive the Point Impact Award October 13 at the Point Honors Los Angeles 2018 Gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The prestigious award recognizes an individual making a significant impact on improving the LGBTQ and allied community.

"Growing up, I was a bit of an outsider," McCormack, 55, says in a statement. "So, I have always been attuned to how society tends to single out people negatively because of their differences, whether they are gay, immigrants, or people with chronic illness."

"I am fortunate that today I can use my visibility to bring attention not just to problems, but also how organizations such as Point Foundation are offering solutions," he continues. "As a parent of a child who will soon be college-bound and as an ally of the LGBTQ community, I am honored to be receiving the Point Impact Award."

A vocal supporter of marriage equality, McCormack has also worked with organizations such as Stand Up 2 Cancer, Project Angel Food, and the ASPCA.

"Eric McCormack and the cast and creative team of Will & Grace didn't set out to change the world, but they did," adds Jorge Valencia, executive director and chief executive officer of Point Foundation. "Their success has helped make it easier for our Point Scholarship recipients to live their truths proudly as LGBTQ people."

"As our Point Scholars take on leadership roles to improve society, they have a staunch ally in McCormack. We are grateful for his support of the LGBTQ community and are elated to honor him.”

Previous Point honorees include Dustin Lance Black, Lena Dunham, Jonathan Groff, Robin Roberts, and Jill Soloway.

Gay writer and comedian Solomon Georgio will host the L.A. gala, which will feature a special performance by Leona Lewis. Pose co-creator Steven Canals will also be honored at the event.

Some of Point’s 97 current scholarship recipients and 300 alumni are set to attend the gala to share their stories about overcoming adversity to earn higher education degrees.

Will & Grace, which ran on NBC for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006, returned last fall and became the network’s top-rated comedy. The revival’s second season premiered October 4.

McCormack recently joined his co-stars—Debra Messing, Megan Mullally, and Sean Hayes—in celebrating the Emmy-winning show’s 20th anniversary on social media.

A third season of the revival has already been confirmed for fall 2019.
