In honor of the Tony Awards on June 9, Barneys Creative Ambassador Simon Doonan and Nexxus Salon Hair Care teamed up for the first department-store-grade window display in a drugstore. Ever.
Incorporating more than 3,200 bottles of shampoo, conditioner and the like, the display took two months to assemble in a Brooklyn warehouse, before it was schlepped over to the Duane Reade across from Radio City Music Hall earlier this week.
Is that how many bottles Bernadette Peters uses to get all that volume?
“Talk about high-low!” Simon Doonan said about switching gears from his usual couture windows at Barneys. At the grand unveiling this morning, Doonan told NewNowNext he used traditional marquee and dressing room lights to give the window a true Broadway feel. (He could’ve used the cast from Smash, now that they have all this time on their hands.)
“I’m mesmerized by drugstores—they’re so much bigger in the U.S. than they are in England,” Doonan, who admitted he would totally do something like this again.
