If you’re anything like us, you probably miss What’s the Tee?, RuPaul and Michelle Visage’s weekly podcast where they would kiki with queens and a variety of celebs.
There hasn’t been a new episode of the chatfest since spring 2020. Luckily, fans of the What’s the Tee? are in for a treat: A new documentary promises to take us behind the scenes of Ru and Visage recording one of their classic convos.
Explant, the forthcoming doc, chronicles Visage’s journey as she decides to get her breast implants removed after experiencing years of health problems she believes stem from them being in her body. In addition to giving viewers a peek into the personal life of Ru’s best squirrel friend, the doc dives into the strange history of breast implants. It also includes interviews with medical experts, doctors, and the first-ever recipient of the modern-day breast implant.
In an exclusive new clip from Explant, we step into the recording booth as Ru and Visage record an episode of What’s the Tee?. Visage discusses what led to her initially get implants decades ago and why she finally decided to get them removed.
“What happens to your emotional identity once they’re gone?” Ru asks Visage in the clip.
“The reason I got them was for my self-confidence. I needed them because of a male-dominated society telling me — and boyfriends — that I wasn’t as attractive with no tits,” she explains. “I always had a great ass, but I never had tits.”
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Jeremy Simmons, and produced by World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, Explant will make its world premiere June 13 virtually at Tribeca at Home, part of the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.
