Missouri Man Posed As Lesbian On Dating Site, Trapped And Assaulted Woman

Genard Toney catfished a woman on Plenty of Fish, then attacked her when she showed up at his home.

A Missouri man is facing a prison sentence after posing as a lesbian on a popular dating site and sexually assaulting a woman he lured to his house.

Genard A. Toney Jr. of Springfield pretended to be a woman named “Rocie” on Plenty of Fish, where he exchanged text messages with at least one victim who agreed to come to his home last October.

When she arrived, though, Rocie wasn’t there—only her male “roommate” (in reality, Toney). She texted Rocie, who told her she’d be back soon and to wait for her. According to testimony, the woman waited for some time, and even took a shower, but eventually decided to leave.

That’s when Toney waled into the bedroom she was in with his penis exposed and revealed his deceit. Toney then climbed on top of her and began kissing and undressing her, and attempted to perform oral sex on her.

The woman told investigators that she was scared and didn’t know how to react. Shortly after the assault, she received a text message from Toney professing “I’m sorry, I’ve fallen in love with you.”

Ten days after the assault, she contacted police, who found evidence of Toney catfishing multiple women and attempting to solicit child pornography from them. Already on probation for another crime, Toney was charged with sodomy and promoting child pornography.
