Famous Movies Re-Imagined With LGBT Characters

What if Romeo and Juliet were both guys?

For anyone who's ever wondered what their favorite film would be like if the leading characters were LGBT instead, Buzzfeed has made your dreams come true in a new collaboration with Sydney photography studio Sherbet Birdie.

The project aims to re-imagine famous movie posters using real LGBT people who represent all parts of the community. The models undergo stunning transformations in the video below to recreate posters for Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing, Romeo & Juliet, Titanic, The Notebook, and others.

In accompanying interviews, the models discuss their views on the mainstream film industry's diversity problems.

"As a gay man, I definitely feel there are representations of my identity reflected in cinema (though perhaps not mainstream), however they often arrive in the form of composite characters with no real nuance, depth or originality," said Samuel Leighton-Dore, posing as Allie Hamilton from The Notebook.

"If I could, I’d create a world where LGBT stories weren’t so defined by adversity, pain and struggle; where queer filmmakers had the confidence to explore the subtler sides of sexuality in an optimistic light, in a way that celebrated the commonality of love."
