Fashion's It Boy, Alexander Wang, Prepares Balenciaga Exit
Alexander Wang will end his three-year tenure as Creative Director for Balenciaga at the conclusion of the SS16 runway presentation during September's Paris Fashion Week according to Women's Wear Daily.
Wang, who succeeded current Louis Vuitton Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière, will likely turn his full attention to his namesake brand (which is rumored to be seeking investors in a bid to go public).
WWD is reporting that the search for Wang's successor is underway.
During his much-regaled reign, Wang helped bring in record growth for the Parisian fashion powerhouse–they jumped from 3 freestanding stores in 2008 to, as of today, 90.
Beyond that, Wang used his celebrity hob-knobbing to help launch campaigns with Kate Moss, Gisele Bündchen and earlier this week, Sam Smith.
During his tenure, celebs including Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Daniel Craig, Eddie Redmayne and more regularly were spotted on red carpets, or even out in about, fashioned in the brand.
“I feel we’re already a globally recognized house, and a top luxury leader. We’re well on our way," he told WWD back in March.
