Fifth Harmony's Dinah Shades Her Friend As "So Gay" On Snapchat

"You can’t defend her. She can’t say something like that."

Fifth Harmony fans are taking singer Dinah Jane Hansen to task after she posted a video of herself using a supposed homophobic slur to Snapchat.

In video of the offense, which was posted to Twitter after Dinah deleted it from her story, the 19-year-old is seated next to an unnamed person whom she calls "gay" as an insult.

"He thinks he's so cute," she says, pointing to the man at her right. "So gay."

Fans who defended the inexcusable language on Twitter were swiftly dealt a lesson in "the gay word."

As you should have learned from Hilary Duff in 2008, using "gay" as a term to describe something that's "uncool" or offensive is offensive in itself. You know, because being gay shouldn't equate with being lame or uncool.

"We know she is not homophobic, but you can’t defend her [right now], she can’t say something like that just [because] she’s ‘Dinah,'" one fan wrote.

Others chimed in with their own take on the situation:

Dinah and her bandmates have yet to respond to the controversy.
