Spirit Awards Honor Gayest Film Moments, So Mostly Laura Dern

Iconic.

Laura Dern will not not be rich—and she will never be overlooked by gay fans.

Thanks to Dern, the 35th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards, held yesterday in Santa Monica and broadcast live on IFC, were much gayer than expected.

At one point, because LGBTQ representation is more important than ever, host Aubrey Plaza brought out the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles to celebrate the "gayest moments" in this year's nominated films that mainstream audiences "may not have realized were gay."

GMCLA proceeded to literally sing the praises of Idina Menzel in Uncut Gems, J.Lo pole-dancing to Fiona Apple in Hustlers, and Renée Zellweger's Judy press tour.

"The kid from Marriage Story, probably one day," they sang in the bit, written by composer Greg O'Connor and gay funnyman Jordan Firstman. "(He's obsessed with Halloween and loves his mother)."

But the gayest thing about Marriage Story—and any story, quite frankly—is Dern: "Laura Dern kicking her feet up on the couch, Laura Dern ordering a kale salad, Laura Dern dressed slutty in court, just all of Laura Dern." Enter diva Alex Newell to repeatedly belt her name for the gods.

Like us, the Little Women and Big Little Lies star was living for it.
