We’re counting down the hours till the premiere of American Horror Story: Freak Show on Wednesday. One of the reasons we’re excited is the arrival of AHS newcomer Finn Wittrock, who plays dilettante heir Dandy Mott.
Wittrock, who turns 30 on October 28, got his big break in 2004 with Halloweentown High. After graduating from Julliard he appeared on ABC’s All My Children from 2009 to 2011 as Damon Miller, a guy who slept with his girlfriend and her mother.
Things started picking up for the Massachusetts native in 2012 when he appeared on Broadway, as Harold “Happy” Loman in the acclaimed Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. Last year he was featured in a story arc on Showtime’s Masters of Sex, playing a gay prostitute.
But 2014 is really Wittrock’s year—he’s already appeared in Noah, Winter’s Tale, and HBO’s adaptation of The Normal Heart, where he first worked with American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy. He’ll appear next on the big screen on Christmas Day in Angelina Jolie’s war film, Unbroken.
Now is all about Freak Show, where Wittrock plays Dandy Mott, who lives up to his name as a spoiled, bored and wealthy fop. His ambition of joining the circus is thwarted by his patrician mother, Gloria, portrayed sublimely by Francis Conroy.
Will Finn become a staple of the macabre anthology series like Conroy, Evan Peters and Jessica Lange? Let’s see if he makes it to the end of the season first.
