How Kelly Ripa's Love For Fire Island Inspired Logo's Newest Reality Series
Last night Fire Island was brought to the island of Manhattan, when the cast of Logo's new reality series Fire Island celebrated the series launch with a premiere party and screening at Atlas Social Club in Hell's Kitchen.
Guests sipped on "The Fire Island," a take on the Blue Whale's infamously heady Planter's Punch. There were even beach balls and towels from the Fire Island house to help transport attendees to the gay getaway.
All six cast members—Brandon, Cheyenne, Jorge, Justin, Khasan and Patrick—reunited to watch the first episode and reminisce about their favorite memories from their summer in the Pines. "Participating in Miss Cherry's [drag competition] as Poly Cockit," Patrick told NewNowNext. "I think I slayed it."
Other housemates singled out moments like watching the sunset on the beach, or impromptu weekend parties. "Labor Day weekend. All of us were in the pool, we had about 12 guests in the house—plus the boys and we had the music going," said Justin. "That is my personal idea of paradise."
For Cheyenne, it was just being able to call five former strangers his new friends.
"They're like brothers to me now, I wouldn't trade that for the world," said Cheyenne. "It's very difficult in the gay community already to acclimate and make friends. It can be tough, so finding those friends so rapidly over one summer was a true joy for me."
Instahunk Max Emerson, comedian Matteo Lane and Drag Race queen Peppermint were among the familiar faces at the bash, along with daytime queen Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos, who are among Fire Island's executive producers.
Ripa revealed she's been going out to Fire Island for "many, many years" and always feels at home the minute they stepped off the ferry.
She called the show, which premieres April 27 "fantasy viewing."
"If there's a Season Two maybe daddy will buy us a house [in the Pines]," she joked, gesturing to Consuelos.
Fire Island premieres Thursday, April 27 at 8/7c on Logo.
