First Lady Of Japan Marches In Tokyo Pride Parade

"I want to help build a society where anyone can conduct happy, enriched lives without facing discrimination."

First Lady Of Japan Akie Abe joined more than 3,000 LGBT people and allies at Tokyo Pride on Sunday, the capstone event of Tokyo Rainbow Week.

Wearing a white suit with a rainbow pin and AIDS ribbon, Abe, 51, joined a drag queen and other revelers on a float promoting AIDS Awareness. The wife of conservative Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, she joined a UNAIDS commission last year.

On the float she smiled and waved at passersby, later posting photos on her Facebook feed.

"I want to help build a society where anyone can conduct happy, enriched lives without facing discrimination" wrote the First Lady. "I had the pleasure of spending fun time filled with smiles. Thank you."
