First Pic Of Chris Pine As Steve Trevor In "Wonder Woman"

Bringing old-timey turtleneck realness

After decades of attempts, while the classic male superheroes have been rebooted and remade endlessly, next year will finally see the first big-screen incarnation of the iconic superheroine Wonder Woman.

Gal Gadot will bring the Amazon princess to life in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March 2016, and then star in her own solo adventure in the summer of 2017.

Filming has just begun in the UK, and while details are still sketchy, here's what we know so far:

* It's directed by Patty Jenkins, who directed Charlize Theron to an Oscar in Monster.

* The main villains will be Ares and Circe, played by Sean Bean and Eva Green.

* Nicole Kidman is in negotiations for a role, most likely as the Queen of the Amazons, Hyppolyta, who is Diana Prince's mother.

*Chris Pine will play Diana's man candy Steve Trevor, and a photo Instagrammed over the weekend from cast member Saïd Taghmaou appears to confirm another rumor, that the film (or at least part of it) will take place in either WW1 or WW11, possibly the origin story of the Diana/Steve love affair.

Tousled works for him.

With all of the various Lois Lanes, Lana Langs, Mary Janes, and innumerable other superhero love interests over the years, it'll be interesting to see how Wonder Woman handles the situation.

Will Steve get a beefed-up role, or will Diana still be the main focus?

Most importantly, how will Chris Pine compare to TV's Steve Trevor, Lyle Waggoner from the 70's classic Wonder Woman series?

He's got a lot to live up to.
