First "Wonder Woman" Footage Has Back Story, Ass-Kicking

"We're going to see her coming of age, the entire history, what's her mission"

During last night's CW Dawn of the Justice League television special, director Kevin Smith and DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns offered a first look at footage from the 2017 Wonder Woman film.

"Wonder Woman's like one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don't know her origins like they know Superman's origin or Batman's origin," Johns said. "So, what we want to do in the film is really tell people who she is, where she comes from and why she does what she does."

"These Amazons were once created to protect man's world, but they've since abandoned it," Johns said. "Diana is asking constantly, 'Why don't we go do what we were created to do and protect man?' They say, 'Because they're not worth it.' And this takes her on a journey into our world."

Gal Gadot, who we'll first see as Wonder Woman in March's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice assures fans "We're going to see her coming of age, the entire history, what's her mission."

Director Patty Jenkins (Monster) is looking forward to bringing the feminist icon to the screen, adding "The greatest thing about Wonder Woman is how good and kind and loving she is, yet none of that negates any of her power."

And Chris Pine, who plays Steve Trevor, is aware of what this story means to so many people, saying "Telling a story like this now is pivotal and important. The story of a very powerful woman."

Take a look.

Wonder Woman will arrive in theaters on June 17, 2017
