Eighth Grader Arrested After Threatening to Kill LGBTQ People and Other Minorities

“Wanna hear what is oppressed? My shot gun ammo because I am wasting it on minorities like you."

An eighth grader in Florida has been arrested and charged with a felony after allegedly making violent threats against LGBTQ people and other minorities in a group chat.

13-year-old Adam Calvo, who attends Leewood K-8 in Southwest Miami-Dade, was questioned by police on Thursday and then taken into custody. The messages were sent the day before, the Miami Herald reports.

"I don’t care if you are oppressed because we all have our problems,” Calvo wrote, according to police. “Wanna hear what is oppressed? My shot gun ammo because I am wasting it on minorities like you. Do you think I won’t hesitate to shoot you? Well guess what buddy, I wouldn’t.”

He added that he knew the threats would be taken seriously since he is "a straight white male," and said he was on his way to murder someone, as well as claiming he had military training and adding that "white lives matter too."

He told police he had copied and pasted the messages. An individuals in the group chat reported the incident to authorities and school administrators, according to WSVN.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials said they deemed the threat non-credible. The school’s principal, Bart D. Christie, sent a robocall to parents letting them know what happened.

“Legal and administrative consequences will be at the forefront of these matters, no matter how small or large they may seem,” Christie said. “Miami-Dade County Public Schools does not condone behavior that disrupts the peace of mind or safe educational environment we work so hard to ensure. This incident serves as a reminder to speak with your child about the responsible use of social media.”

Calvo is set to appear in court next week.
