Footage Of Suspects Released In Brutal Attack On Philadelphia Gay Couple

Police in Philadelphia have released security footage of a group of people they've identified as suspects in a brutal attack on a gay couple last Thursday night.

The couple, who have asked to remain anonymous, were walking to a pizza shop in Center City when they were approached by a group of more than a dozen men and women on 16th and Chancellor streets.

"I had three, four guys on me. I turned around and saw [my boyfriend's] head hit the ground, like, hard," said the other, a 28-year-old. "I was horrified. I thought he was dead."

Police say one of the suspects snatched a victim's bag, which contained his phone and wallet, and then the group fled the scene.

Both victims were taken the hospital, where their injuries were treated. "I have multiple facial fractures on both sides of my face," said the 26-year-old victim, whose jaw had to be wired shut. "I have an orbital fracture, which is like the eye socket. I had a big laceration that was from the tip of my nose all the way to my lip that was gushing blood."

The hope is someone will recognize the alleged perpetrators from the footage and contact the police. They have described the suspects as "a group of fifteen white males and females in their early twenties, clean cut and well dressed."

Authorities haven't declared the assault a hate crime yet, but the victims are positive they were singled out because they were gay. "It's not just us," said the 28-year-old. "I don't want this to happen to anyone else. It's not fair."

A local business is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the attackers.
