The 7 Best Gay Sports Bars In America

Crew-Chicago-Gay-Sports-Bar

4804 N. Broadway, Chicago, IL

A Chicago favorite for its array of American and Tex-Mex eats (make sure to stop by during $1 Taco Tuesdays), Crew Bar & Grill is a straight-friendly watering hole showcasing sports on more than 20 screens. Weekly parties include pop-music and karaoke nights, and every last Friday of the month there's a popular jockstrap contest. If you 're new to the Windy City, join the Beer God club: Try all of Crew's dozen-plus beers on tap and get your picture on the wall, a free "Beer God" t-shirt and discounts on imperial, 20oz, pints for a year.

nellies-gay-sports-bar-dc

Nellie's Sports Bar

900 U Street NW, Washington, DC

trailblazer, both for the gay-sports-bar concept, and for revitalizing the U Street area, Nellie's has three bars across two floors and a rooftop deck: It's like a gay tailgating party with 25 flatscreen TVs. The drinks are strong, and the food diverges from the typical wings-and-nachos menu with empanadas and build-your-own arepas. A great option for bringing your straight friends, who may not realize it's a gay bar until the drag queen starts taking their brunch order!

Hi Tops

2247 Market Street, San Francisco, CA

Hi Tops must be doing something right: Eater SF ranked this newcomer the second-best sports bar in the city, gay or otherwise.  The casual Castro saloon wins over locals and visitors alike with an attitude-free aura and menu of bacon burgers, fried-chicken sandwiches, corn dogs and homemade warm pretzels. Swing by Thursdays for Gym Class and get free whisky shots from jockstrap-wearing bar babes. A double win!

 Tabu-gay-sports-bar

Tabu Lounge & Sports Bar

200 S. 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA

Opened for more than three years, Tabu is a great option when your posse is divided: Sports fans can enjoy the long bar, TVs and game room on the first level, while cocktail sophisticates can hunker down in the cozy lounge upstairs. It's not all about sports, though: Philly freaks come out for Ratchet Wednesdays, while karaoke and American Idol-style singoffs bring the songbirds.

Fritz Bar

26 Chandler Street, Boston, MA

Open each day from noon, Fritz supports more than ten gay sports teams throughout Beantown, many of which drop by to wind down after games and practices. While there are just a few TVs to enjoy major sports, athletic supporters can meet in-the-flesh jocks during their popular Saturday and Sunday brunches.

GYM-weho-gay-sports

Gym Sportsbar

8737 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA

West Hollywood important the Gym brand from New York, staking a claim for gay jocks in the City of Angels. (It's still L.A.'s only gay sports bar, if you can believe that.)  Strong drinks make it popular for pre-gaming, or come of Monday for karaoke, or weekends for a beer blast.  This is WeHo, so make it light beer.

boxers-hk-gay-sports

Boxers HK

742 9th Avenue, Manhattan, NY

The uptown outpost for Boxers, which opened its first location in Chelsea some years back, offers a rarity in new York bar life: A rooftop terrace. More than 20 LGBT teams are sponsored by the bar, which often hosts season-ending parties and team meetings. Enjoy late night happy hours, weekly beer (and cosmo) pong tournaments, and Cazwell spinning downstairs in the Dogpound every Wednesday.

Andrew Villagomez is looking forward to seeing more  jocks come out this fall. He tweets as @AndyVeeNYC
