Ford Modeling Agency Signs Its First Transgender Model

"I'm grateful that I can say I'm surrounded by a team that truly values what I bring to the table."

Ford Models, one of the most iconic agencies in the business has signed the first openly transgender model in the company's 71-year history: Initially appearing in both men's and women's campaigns, Andreja Pejic came out as transgender in 2014. She became the first trans model to be profiled in Vogue and the first to lead a major beauty campaign as the face of Make Up For Ever.

She's also appeared on the covers of Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and GQ Portugal.

"I'm grateful that I can say I'm surrounded by a team that truly values what I bring to the table," Pejic wrote on Instagram. "I guess it's the number one rule of business in this business, but it's not always the easiest one to achieve. Excited for the future!"

Born in Bosnia, Pejic fled civil unrest there with her family and emigrated to Australia. She was scouted by a modeling agent while working at a McDonald's.

She is now represented by Christopher Michael, Ford's chief creative officer.
