Former Oregon Bakery Owners Must Pay $135K For Refusing To Make Cake For Lesbian Wedding

Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian has ordered Aaron and Melissa Klein, former co-owners of Sweet Cakes By Melissa in Gresham, OR, to pay $135,000 to a lesbian couple after the Klein's refused to make a cake for the couple's 2013 wedding.

Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, the couple who pressed charges, had originally sought out the Klein's for their wedding cake after Rachel and her mother attended a testing at the bakery.

When Rachel informed Aaron that she and Laurel were lesbians, he apparently responded by telling her that he and wife's religious beliefs would not allow them to support a same-sex union in any way.

Shortly after their commitment ceremony in 2013, the Bowman-Cryer's filed a complaint about the Klein's with Oregon's Bureau of Labor and Industries, who promptly charged the bakers for "emotional and mental suffering."

Following the ruling, the Kleins took to their former bakery's Facebook page to rant against the man.

We guess you truly can't have your cake and eat it, too. (Sorry we couldn't resist)
