Fort Lauderdale Kicks Off Region's First Transgender Pride
More than 60,000 people are expected to converge on beautiful, sandy Fort Lauderdale Beach this Sunday for its 41st annual Pride Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, February 11, from noon to 8pm. As part of the festivities, the city will also host the region’s first Transgender Pride, with an appearance by leading transgender model and singer Laith Ashley (below), star of the Oxygen network’s series, Strut.
“Greater Fort Lauderdale has been a pioneer and leader in welcoming the LGBT+ community to the destination for 25 years,” said Richard Gray, vice president, LGBT+ market, of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We took early leadership commissioning a landmark transgender study to better understand the needs of this community as an important and often ignored visitor market. As one of the most progressive destination's in the country, it was a natural evolution to incorporate a Transgender Pride into the festivities."
Headlining the entire LGBT "Love Pride" festival will be Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, Estelle, and internationally-acclaimed singer, flamenco guitarist, and frequent The Love Boat guest star, Charo (above). Celebrity DJs Tracy Young, Deanna and Power Infiniti are also slated to spin on the main stage throughout the day.
Admission to the main event will be free. For more information, visit PrideFortLauderdale.org.
