Break Out the Jazz Hands: The First “Fosse/Verdon” Trailer Has Arrived

Break out the jazz hands!

Last summer FX announced Fosse/Verdon, a limited series about Broadway legends/power couple Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, based on Sam Wasson’s 2013 Fosse biography. The eight-episode series will be executive produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda and star recent Oscar winner Sam Rockwell as Fosse, and Michelle Williams as Verdon.

During this past weekend’s Golden Globes, FX debuted the first teaser trailer for Fosse/Verdon, complete with Rockwell and Williams showing off some signature Fosse dance moves onstage.

Fosse was not only one of the most influential choreographers of his time, but he was also a filmmaker who won a Best Director Oscar for helming 1972’s Cabaret. Verdon is considered one of the greatest Broadway dancers, winning four Tony Awards over the course of her career, and she is most known for her roles in Damn Yankees and Sweet Charity.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the series will feature Fosse’s choreography and explore the hidden corners of showbiz, the price of pursuing greatness and the suffering inflicted in the name of art.”

Steven Levenson (who wrote the book for Dear Evan Hansen) will serve as showrunner. He also wrote the pilot episode, which will be directed by Hamilton’s Thomas Kail. The project has the blessing of Nicole Fosse, the daughter of Fosse and Verdon, who will be an executive producer on the series.

“My mother and father have one of the greatest love stories ever known,” Nicole Fosse said in a statement. “They were extremely complex people with an indestructible bond, loyalty and trust that endured both fantasy and reality. Finally, we have a creative team with the talent and wisdom to tell the story.”

Fosse/Verdon will premiere in April on FX.
