Four Fun Winter Events You Won't Want To Miss

In fact, we forecast a flurry of fun to be had in Aspen, Québec City, the Adirondacks, and Miami Beach.

Once the holidays have come and gone, there is no need to hide your head under the covers and wait for spring. We've found four fantastically fun winter events to tide you over until warmer temps return; in fact, you may even find yourself praying for snow.

Aspen Gay Ski Week

From January 14-21, the beautiful snow-covered peaks of Colorado play host to one of the winter's biggest LGBT events. The week's action-packed schedule includes daily skiing (of course) on four different mountains, nightly après ski parties and dinners, drag queen bingo, a performance by the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, a pool party, a "Top of the Mountain" dance party, and more.

One of the world's largest events of its kind, the Québec City Winter Carnival brings more than two weeks of snow-filled fun including two night parades, snow slides, a snow sculpture competition, an ice canoe race, and lots of skating. The bravest of winter carnival attendees can join jolly snowman and festival host, Bonhomme Carnaval, for the annual snow bath (photo above).

First held in 1897 to break up the monotony of Adirondack winters, the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is the longest-running event of its kind in the eastern United States. In addition to the behemoth ice palace created every year using thousands of 800-pound ice blocks (photo above), the winter carnival also has tons of winter sports like nordic skiing and ice-skating, as well as more esoteric events like ultimate arctic frisbee, a women's frying pan toss, and a royal coronation. This year's event takes place February 2-11.

Even if the whole freezing cold thing isn't for you, Miami Beach's Winter Party should be an event you find easy to warmly embrace. This year, the iconic weeklong celebration of LGBTQ will take place from February 28 - March 6, 2018. To celebrate its silver anniversary, the festival has partnered with Masterbeat, as well as some of the world’s other top party brands like Beyond (London), Forever (Tel Aviv), WE Party (Madrid), and XLSIOR (Mykonos).

If you want another reason to feel great about attending, the “party with a purpose” is a fundraising venture produced by the National LGBTQ Task Force which donates a significant portion of the proceeds from Winter Party Festival each year to LGBTQ advocacy and community groups in South Florida. In July 2017, the Task Force donated a record-breaking $300,000, for a grand total of $2.7 million given back since the organization took on the production of Winter Party Festival.
