Fox News' Contributor Guy Benson Comes Out: "Gay Rights Is Not Something That Dominates My Attention"

Guy Benson isn't just a right-wing radio host and Fox News contributor, he's gay—a fact he calls a "footnote" in his new book, End of Discussion: How the Left’s Outrage Industry Shuts Down Debate, Manipulates Voters, and Makes America Less Free (and Fun).

The baby-faced 30-year-old told BuzzFeed that “gay rights is not something that dominates my attentions — or my passions." He admits that might be hypocritical to a lot of people (actually he says "incongruous") but like most Log Cabin Republicans, he prefers to focus on the bigger picture.

Citing a Iran and the alleged failure of Obamacare, he says "the issues that I care about most undergird the reasons why I’m a conservative and have been forever and will be a conservative moving forward.”

Translation: "I got my rights so I really can't be bothered with any other gay person's."

While he supports same-sex marriage and nondiscrimination laws, Benson insists there should be "broad carve-outs for religious organizations, in particular, and narrow carve-outs for closely-held businesses that serve the wedding industry.”

He also calls people who think gay Republicans hate themselves "extraordinarily" closed-minded: "A free-thinking, free citizen of a free country is not obliged to be confined to a bedazzled ideological straitjacket because that’s how they ‘ought’ to think and ‘ought’ to vote and ‘ought’ to rank their priorities.”

Sure, Guy, maybe in the 1970s, when the two main political parties held distinctly different economic and military policies.

But since the GOP has been campaigning on "values" for the past 20 years, we're not sure what makes someone a Republican anymore if it's not a dislike of gay people.
