France's Fete de la Musique
La Fete de la Musique, France annual summer solstice celebration, celebrated its 30th year today. Other countries have copied the festival idea, but none embrace is as fully as the French, who essentially bring the country to a halt while they party all day. (I first came across La Fete when I was 12, and visiting Europe with my grandparents. We had no idea what was going on, but I liked watching the sexy Parisians jam around Ile Ste Louis on their rollerskates.) Pictured above, dancers break it down in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
In Nice, couples dance while the sun sets over the sea.
Teenagers. Absolutely the same, all over the world.
Just about every genre of music is represented in Paris, and it's often a traveling show.
