Rare Photos Of Freddie Mercury And His Boyfriend Reveal Personal Side Of Iconic Singer

The photos offer a glimpse into his relationship with Jim Hutton.

Widely regarded today as a major queer icon, Freddie Mercury was actually fairly private about his sexuality during his lifetime. However, a recently surfaced collection of candid photos of him with his last boyfriend is giving fans a sneak peek into his romantic side.

Mercury first met Jim Hutton at a club in the mid-1980s. Though they struck up a rapport, Hutton initially rebuffed the Queen singer's romantic advances. The pair would bump into each other a second time shortly thereafter, but Hutton again told Mercury that he wasn't interested.

They wouldn't run into one another again for two years, but when they did, Mercury picked up right where he left off and asked Hutton on a date. The third time turned out to be the charm and the two quickly developed a passionate romance.

The couple moved in together two years later and would stay a couple until the musician's death in 1991. Though Mercury offered Hutton an exit on their relationship after he was diagnosed with AIDS, the hairdresser reportedly told him, "I'm not going anywhere" and nursed him through his last days.
