Newly Unearthed Freddie Mercury Song Will Give You Chills

The track is an alternate version of a single he released in 1986.

Freddie Mercury passed away 28 years ago, but he’s still making headlines in 2019.

Earlier this year Rami Malek took home the Best Actor Oscar for portraying the Queen frontman in the 2018 biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and now a new Mercury song, “Time Waits for No One,” has been unearthed.

The track is an alternate version of a single Mercury released in 1986 from singer-producer Dave Clark’s sci-fi rock musical Time. The original was more heavily produced with percussion and backing vocals, but another stripped-down version with just Mercury and the piano was also recorded. The alternate take was unearthed last year by Clark, who then updated it with a new piano track by the session’s original pianist, Mike Moran.

“Freddie just wanted to have fun and live in the moment,” Clark says. In the studio, “he gave his all. If Freddie didn’t like something, he’d stop and say so. He was very meticulous. That’s why I was surprised we hit it off so well, because everybody said he’d be a nightmare to work with. But Freddie was great. We were both aiming to create something special and it certainly was special.”

According to CBS News, Clark wanted a “cross between Edith Piaf, Jennifer Holliday, and Shirley Bassey, and Freddie said ’I have all of their dresses! I can do it!'”
