Freeform Orders Transgender Family Drama From Joel Silver, Don Roos

Exciting news!

Freeform, previously known as ABC Family, has slated New People for development, a transgender family drama from The Opposite Of Sex writer-director Don Roos, Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures and Lionsgate Television.

The series is inspired by the best-selling nonfiction book Becoming Nicole: The Transformation Of An American Family, which tells the story of a trans girl, her identical twin brother and their family's journey toward acceptance.

This is not the first time Freeform has tackled material concerning trans individuals; as ABC Family, the company produced the docuseries Becoming Us, which featured a trans character.

Roos, who will be coming on as a writer for the project, has previously worked on Single White Female, Marley & Me and the comedy series Web Therapy, starring Lisa Kudrow.

As of this writing, no further information is known about the production.
