The 2021 Grammy nominations might have been announced this week, but here’s the real music news we’ve been waiting for: The Frock Destroyers are back with a new single.
The girl group—consisting of Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea, and Divina de Campo—first formed on the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K., where they performed their earworm of a single, “Break Up Bye Bye.” The song made herstory by hitting #3 on iTunes and entering the Big U.K. Top 40 at #10, becoming the first top-10 hit in the U.K. charts to be performed by a drag group.
Now the trio is back with a new single, “Her Majesty,” off their upcoming album, Frock4Life.
“I’m so excited about our new album, I just can’t believe it. We’ve worked so hard, and we’ve spent nearly a year on it all in lockdown and it’s finally happening,” Baga said in a statement. “It’s going to be amazing; we love all the songs and I think especially coming closer to Christmas time, we all need a bit of cheer and want to put smiles on people’s faces. The fans have been so amazing so I think now is the right time to Frock Destroy and we’re going to take over the world! We want to thank you for all the support. Big fat Baga kiss.”
Blu added that their first single, “Break Up Bye Bye,” was like “like catching lightning in a bottle, and showed the world what British drag is capable of.”
“We want to build on that iconic moment and take over the music industry as the slaggy drag-band that we are! Baga, Davina, and myself were handed a golden opportunity to frock destroy everyone with new music, and you better believe this album will leave everyone despunked and begging for more,” Blu explained.
As if a full Frock Destroyers album wasn’t enough to get you excited, Divina teased that the collection of “proper bangers” is “a bit of a Steps going to dinner with Little Mix hosted by three drag queens.” Say no more.
Behind the scenes, Frock4Life was produced by World of Wonder Records, an indie label created by Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, the legendary producers of RuPaul’s Drag Race, with Brett “Leland” McLaughlin serving as a songwriter and executive producer. Frock4Life will be released December 11 and is available for pre-order now.
We need to hear “Her Majesty” out on the G-A-Y dance floor as soon as possible, so let’s hurry up with those COVID-19 vaccines, shall we? Until then, check out the new bop below.
