FYI: Norma From "Orange Is The New Black" Used To Be The Frontwoman Of A Punk Band

For anyone who's already binge-watched the entire third season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix, you know Norma (played by Annie Golden) was an integral part of this go-around (don't worry, no spoilers).

But you may be surprised to learn that the mute, former culinary henchman of Red was actually the frontwoman of a punk band in real life.

Yes, Annie Golden was the face and voice of the punk group The Shirts in the mid to late 70s.

Yas, queen.

Annie's singing voice was a deep, loud vibrato and worked nicely over the thrashing guitars and percussion behind her.

The band often headlined CBGB, the famous venue on Manhattan's Lower East Side that featured many acts like The Ramones, Blondie and Patti Smith.

Golden has an illustrious Broadway resume to her name as well, appearing in the original cast of Hair in 1977 (as well as the film) and with co-starring roles in The Full Monty, Xanadu and last year's revival of Violet starring Sutton Foster.

God bless OTINB for assembling this roster of bad ass ladies.

Praise Norma!

Watch Annie/Norma rock it on stage out in a tank top while The Shirts performed "Teenage Crutch" in 1979.
