Dead Cow Dumped In Front Of Woman's House After She Hoists Rainbow Flags

“I refuse to let something like this make me live in fear."

On Monday, Gaelyn Porter, a resident of Johnson City, TN, found a cow carcass had been left in front of her property—and she believes it has to do with the rainbow flags she has hanging from her front porch.

In addition to the cow carcass, Johnson City Press reports that Porter later discovered "someone had also scattered approximately 70 nails near her residence’s vehicles." She is considering both of the acts hate crimes—but she won't let them stop her.

“I refuse to let something like this make me live in fear", said Porter. “I’m not going to take my flags down. In fact, I’m going to put up more, and I hope everyone else does, too."

An animal control officer disposed of the carcass and told Porter that he "had never seen anything like it in 13 years of working for animal control."

Now the South Side Neighborhood Organization, a local group that assists the residents of Porter's neighborhood, will be selling rainbow flags for $5 to those who want to show their support for Porter and the LGBT community. All proceeds will benefit the Tennessee Human Rights Campaign.

“It’s definitely not OK, and it doesn’t belong in our neighborhood,” said South Side Organization's Amber Floyd Lee about the hateful nature behind the incidents.

“I don’t know what motivation they would have for doing something like this," said Porter. "No one here has any enemies. Why would they be so hateful?”

Porter took to Facebook to thank everyone for their support over the past few days and to update her neighbors on the distribution of the rainbow flags: "the Tree streets are gonna look like a bag of Skittles blew up on it. Taste the rainbow, haters. We stand together to support all people. Love is love."
